EXCESS?

Have you ever driven down Woodlands Parkway, or any street these days, and seen the patriotic flag banners on the light standards? If you live in The Woodlands, then I am sure you've seen them. While you are driving down any major street in The Woodlands it doesn't take long before the patriotic feeling to diminish and the banners just blend into the landscape. The excessive use of the banners has gotten to the point where I've heard people complain that the intersections are covered with them. In 2006 I inquired about some different banners in The Woodlands and was told by Ms. Lisa Morris, The Records Manager of The Community Associations of The Woodlands, that "The information you request is not subject to the Public Information Act of Texas;thus, is not subject to disclosure under the Act."

I remember seeing entergy trucks installing the banners in years past, but it appears to be a private company installing them now.

I have submitted a new request to get banner information and asked what the 'entire' banner project is costing the residents of The Woodlands.

It's important to note that CATW approves the banners, but does not think residents of The Woodlands should be paying for excess.

There are flags everywhere and they look horrible. I would rather they spend money on a few real flags at each major intersection with a light shining on it 24X7. This would be much more patriotic along with looking better. The Woodlands spends thousands and thousands of dollars on banners I bet. Let us know the results of your request.

Article VI

A man only has one thing that no one can take from him, Integrity!
When he gives that up, he has nothing.
Memorial day is a day to honor the fallen, not have parties, and sales at the local establisments. I actually saw a car dealer advertising a sale where you could meet a Medal of Honor winner. It's a shame what we will sell our honor/integrity for. They say everyone has a price, it just seems that some peoples prices are at a discount.

I saw a light pole without a banner the other day.......I was so shocked I took a picture. There has to be a better way to spend the residents hard earned dollars.

I'm late for work every day since I have to stop and say the pledge every 100 feet! This is ridiculous. Excess is an understatement.

Anonymous, CATW appreciates the humor. The Woodlands could have the same patriotic results with 1/10 of the flags.

Don't worry. Pretty soon all of the United States flags will be removed when the flag is deemed offensive, intimidating, and harrassment to our Mexican residents. Isn't it ironic that the TCID spends thousands of dollars (kinda like Pesos but still worth something) advertising The Woodlands in glossy high-end Mexico City publications then offends them by displaying that horribly offensive American flag?

God Bless America (and please hurry!),

Some people are so tasteless that they always believe that more is always better.... more more more.

They also order a little coffee with a cup of sugar!

They aren't flags, they are banners and they were given to the community originally by the South County Fourth of July Committee who at one point was paying Entergy to put the banners up and take them down. The Woodlands prior to the banners, to did have flags but they were fadded to various colors of orange. At the time this product was the best solution and it has had terrific wear. Many members of the community donated money and a lot of hard work to raise the funds for this project which some choose to only belittle.
